We bought this inherited house and found something shocking

We buy inherited houses all the time. The owners generally want the house in as is condition and leave behind the belongings they don’t want. Particularly when the heirs live out of state, they just want an easy sales process and leave the house for us to clean up. We are used to finding interesting things but what we found in this house we bought in Westwego really shocked us. Watch the video of our Founder Aussie Steve talking about the house and what we found or read the video transcript below.

Hey, guys, it is Aussie Steve here from Home Buyer Louisiana. We buy houses in any condition in Louisiana. I am here at a house we’re in the process of purchasing on the West Bank of Jefferson Parish in Westwego. We should close on it next week.

The sellers had reached out to us earlier. There were some title issues with the property. It is an inherited property and there’s been a succession done for one of the owners several years ago that had a title flaw in it. It had to be fixed. So, we had to go back to the lawyer and fix that. Also, there was another succession that needed to be done, which we’re doing now.

We are just finalizing the paperwork. When I say we, I’m talking about our title attorneys.

When we purchase a property, we do pay cash, but we don’t bring you a duffle bag of money, even though that would be cool. And pretty dangerous. We use title attorneys and we pay cash to them. The title attorney does all the title work and issues the payments and makes it a legal transaction.

We do have a lot of different title situations, so sometimes, you think you can’t sell a house, but unknown to you, there’s a way. In addition, we have a pretty good network to make that happen.

Now, I am going to show you around the house. It’s in pretty bad shape, and I’m here for a specific reason, which I’ll show you in a second. It’s a little strange, but these things do happen. But you’ll notice, there’s a lot of mold in the property. It’s been taking in water, and the carpet is outdated. So, it’s going to need a pretty significant rehab. We may end up replacing the kitchen as well. Considering all these, I think we’re going to do a flip.

We do rentals or flips. It just depends on the different circumstances at hand. If we’re going to keep it as a rental property, we would probably put a little bit less money into it because it’s going to get beat up by our tenants. If it’s a flip, obviously, a homeowner is going to buy and you want all those nice finishes.

Remember earlier, I said I was going to show you something interesting, well when we were here checking out the property, we found the ashes of somebody. We called the seller to inform him. He lives out of state. Unfortunately, he actually doesn’t know whose ashes they are. He hasn’t been in the property for a long time. Someone else has been living there and they hadn’t let him in. So, it’s been a long time since he’s been here. And we’re really not sure whose ashes they are. Obviously, this is something we have to treat with proper respect. Luckily, upon searching, we found a tag on it that has the Crematory which is on the north shore and there’s a number that identifies whose ashes it is. The Crematory didn’t tell me the story, but they have said if we bring it back to them, they will try to reach out to the interested people who would want those ashes, and if they can’t find them, then they will respectfully store them.

So, these sorts of things happen. This in particular hasn’t happened to me before, but when you’re buying old inherited properties like this, there are lots of stuff like that. We buy them in as is condition, so often, that means there’s a lot of belongings in the house cleared out, and we’re fine to deal with that. This is a very different belonging, but we treated it with respect. If we buy your house, we’re going to treat it with respect. We’re going to treat you with respect. So, we’re just going to make sure we do the right thing. And in terms of the house, we’re going to bring this back. It’s going to be beautiful. It’s a nice area in Westwego, and the neighborhood is going to really appreciate during the spring. Also, the neighbors will appreciate having the house fixed up because it’s been like this for a while.

It’s a win-win for everyone. Our sellers are really happy that they’re able to get paid cash for the property. The neighbors are really happy that the house is going to be fixed up. We’re really happy that we got a good project. That’s how we like to do business.

So, if you have a house you are looking to sell. Whatever the situation may be. Probably, it’s got a title issue. Or it’s not in a great condition like this one. Then give us a call, and we’ll be happy to chat with you. There is no pressure to sell to us. We speak to a lot of people, and we don’t need to buy every single house from every person who calls us. We’re happy to talk to you about your situation, and let you know the options available to you. One of those options could be us purchasing it, but we could also suggest you do other things and we often do.

So, give us a call and also check out our website homebuyerluisiana.com. You’ll find lots of information and contact there as well.

Thank you. Bye.
