Selling an Inherited House with Hurricane Damage in Westwego, Louisiana

Inherited properties can create unexpected challenges, especially for homeowners dealing with succession issues and selling inherited property. In this Westwego, Louisiana case, Home Buyer Louisiana was asked to evaluate an inherited house that had remained locked up and inaccessible for an extended period.

Before the property could even be inspected, legal paperwork had to be completed so a locksmith could provide access to the home. Once inside, Dillon King found extensive damage throughout the house, including roof issues, sheetrock damage, sinking floors, and large amounts of waste and debris.

In this video, Dillon walks through the property and explains some of the challenges involved with selling a house in Westwego after years of vacancy and deferred maintenance.

Hey everyone, it’s Dillon King here with Home Buyer Louisiana. I’m in Westwego, Louisiana today.

This property was inherited and still has damage from Hurricane Katrina. From what the neighbors have told me, the person who inherited the house does not live in Louisiana, and the property has been locked up for quite some time.

It took us a few days, but we had to go through the process of getting the proper legal paperwork signed so we could call a locksmith and have the door opened for us. That allowed us to get inside and inspect the property, as we do with every house.

Just because something is a hurdle doesn’t mean it’s a hassle, and it definitely doesn’t mean it’s impossible. As you can see, I’ve made my way into the property.

Like I said, the neighbors tell me this damage is from Katrina. Whether that’s exactly what caused it, I don’t know. Either way, it has been quite a few years. Almost every room in the house has sheetrock damage in the ceilings. You can see daylight coming in, so there’s roof damage and sheetrock damage. Some of the flooring is sinking.

The cabinetry behind me looks ransacked. I don’t know if it was left that way or if there were squatters in the property at some point. One thing I am running from right now is a lot of waste throughout the house.

If you have a property you want to get off your hands and it’s inconvenient for you for any reason, go to HomeBuyerLouisiana.com and tell us about the property. Let us know how to get in touch with you.

I’ll be out there shortly to inspect the property. We can take that headache property off your hands. Visit HomeBuyerLouisiana.com, tell us everything you can about the property, and we’ll be in touch.

We’re going to buy this house as-is. We’re going to buy it as quickly as we can, and we’re going to buy it for cash.
