Foreclosure Property in Harvey with Serious Foundation Issues

Not every property we buy is a straightforward project, and this house in Harvey on the West Bank of New Orleans is a great example. Jon had to bring in a locksmith just to get inside, and once he did, it was clear that while much of the house still looked solid, the foundation problems were severe (probably the worst he’s seen so far).

Despite the challenges, we’re exploring solutions. Foundation issues don’t scare us off. With the right plan, this house can be repaired, leveled, and turned back into a home for someone in the community.

You can watch the video to see the property and hear more about the situation, or read the video transcript below.

What’s up everybody? It’s Jon with Home Buyer Louisiana. I am in a house over here in Harvey on the West Bank of New Orleans. I actually had to have a locksmith let me in. Normally I can find my way into these houses, but this one was locked up tight. This is basically a foreclosure property. We were dealing a little bit with the seller and with the bank and, yeah, it’s ready to go. It’s got some serious foundation issues. You can’t see it, but you can feel it sinking right here. You can see it up here on the ceiling lines. It’s significant from the outside too—a lot of the brick is separating. You’ll see a lot of that. This is actually probably the worst I’ve ever seen.

We’ve got to figure out what a renovation budget looks like. Everything else in here looks kind of okay. The fireplace looks nice. There’s still some stainless steel and some decent-looking cabinets in the kitchen. The bathrooms look okay. All in all, it looks great except for this very ominous foundation issue. So, I’m going to try to get some experts on this one, get an expert opinion from a foundation person and see if we can figure out a way to get it straightened out, get it leveled, repair some of the cracking, and get this house back on the market for somebody to live in.
