We bought this inherited house without having been inside

In the small town of Independence, tucked between Hammond and Amite City, we bought an inherited home without ever stepping foot inside. The seller didn’t live nearby and didn’t want to make the trip back. The property had belonged to his father years ago, and more recently, his brother had taken it over. Sadly, after his brother passed away, the home became his responsibility, something he didn’t ask for and didn’t have the energy to deal with.

The brother had been in the middle of renovations before he passed, and the house was left gutted on the inside and deteriorating on the outside. When I went out to inspect it, the owner believed it was open, but the doors were locked. Still, I could see through the windows enough to understand what we were working with. From what I could tell, it had been stripped down to the studs, which actually made things simpler for us to evaluate.

We completely understood why the seller didn’t want to come back to town or deal with the property. It’s tough to walk through a house full of memories and unfinished work, especially after losing family. Our goal is always to make life easier for people in those situations, and in this case, we did exactly that. After a quick conversation and a few photos, we were able to agree on a fair cash price that same afternoon. The seller didn’t have to lift a finger or even unlock the door.

Many people find themselves in similar situations with inherited homes across Louisiana. Sometimes the properties are in another parish, sometimes they’re in rough shape, and sometimes the emotions tied to them make it hard to even visit. That’s why we step in, to handle the hard parts, so sellers can move forward without the stress.

You can watch the video to see the property and hear more about the situation, or read the video transcript below.

Hey, Aussie Steve from Home Buyer Louisiana. We buy houses all over Louisiana.

I’m here at a property in Independence at the moment. It’s an interesting one—it’s an inherited property. The original owner passed away a long time ago, then his brother owned it, and unfortunately, he also passed away. The current owner inherited it but doesn’t want to come back or deal with the house. He just wants to turn it into money.

I’m checking it out today to see if I can meet his price to buy it. With situations like this, the sellers often don’t want to deal with anything. In this case, the door is actually locked, so I can’t get inside. But I’ve looked through the window and checked around the outside. It’s a gutted property, which makes it easier to assess what’s inside.

When it comes to these inherited houses, the heirs don’t always want to deal with the estate, and a lot of the time there are belongings left behind that they don’t want. We’re happy to buy them in their current condition. We’ll take care of the belongings, donate them to charity or dispose of them if needed. Whatever it takes to help you move on and turn the property into money you can use.

So if you’ve got a house in Louisiana you’re looking to sell, reach out to us at HomeBuyerLouisiana.com.
Thanks very much, guys.
