We Bought This Inherited House in Metairie—Still Rocking Its Original 1970s Carpet!

We recently bought a house in Metairie, Louisiana, that hadn’t been updated since the 1970s—and yes, it still had its original green shag carpet! The seller inherited the home from his parents, who had either built it or purchased it brand new back in the day. After decades in the family, the property had become more of a burden than a benefit. He wanted a simple, all-cash, as-is sale… and that’s exactly what we provided.

You can watch the video to see the property and hear more about the situation, or read the video transcript below.

Hey guys, Aussie Steve here from Home Buyer Louisiana. We buy houses in any condition in Louisiana.
I’m here at a property that we purchased in Jefferson Parish—we’re in Metairie.
We actually closed on it about 10 days ago.
The seller wanted a little bit of time to get some of the belongings they wanted out of it.
So, we did a post-purchase occupancy to give them 10 days to take the things they wanted, because there were just some sentimental things. They left a bunch of stuff too, which I can show you.

This property had been in the family a long time.
I don’t know if the parents built the house in the ’70s or bought it as a new build, but they’ve basically been here since the ’70s.
The parents passed away a while ago, and the seller inherited it.
They kept it for a little while, but it was time to move on.
You’ll see it’s not in great condition.
It’s a great old house, but it needs everything.
That’s why he reached out to us—he wanted an all-cash, as-is, simple sale.
And we were able to provide that for him.

There had been a leak upstairs into this room, which is why this is all gutted out.
That’s probably the worst part of the house.
The rest is just really old.
There’s nothing structurally wrong, but it’s super dated.
You’ll see the kitchen and appliances—got some mold and stuff, very dated.
We obviously have to update the whole thing.
But it’s got some great bones.

The seller took what they wanted and left the rest.
So now we’ll have to get rid of all this stuff—but that’s okay.
We buy as-is, so that’s a benefit of selling to us.
We don’t mind if you leave stuff behind—we’ll just get rid of it.

Let me show you this carpet.
This is the original carpet from, I think, 1977.
It’s actually in really good shape!
Obviously we’re going to have to replace it, because no one wants this color—it’s very dated.
But I’m astounded at what good shape it’s in.
They don’t make things like they used to!
Yeah, all this is original carpet. Pretty amazing.

This needs everything.
It’s going to be a full renovation.
We’re going to absolutely update every single thing in this house.
But that’s what we do.
If you have a house you want to sell and don’t want to do all this yourself, this would be a really big project.
It’s a lot of money, a lot of effort—and just not what the seller wanted to deal with.
He was happy to sell the house for cash in as-is condition and let someone like us take it from here.

If you’re looking to sell a house in South Louisiana or on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, reach out to us.
